Research shows that therapy is most effective when there is a strong, solid relationship between client and therapist. That said, choosing the right therapist for you can have a dramatic impact on your experience in therapy. To help decide if we are a good fit, I offer a complimentary 20-minute telephone consultation to discuss your situation and answer any questions you might have about my practice.
If desired, you can schedule an initial appointment to meet in person, where we will get to know one another better, and explore options for working together. At this first session, I will complete an assessment and will be able to make treatment recommendations based on our conversation and your goals.
Your therapy plan will be tailored to your individual needs. Typically, sessions are 50-55 minutes in length. For couples work, EMDR sessions, or by request, we may schedule longer session of 75-90 minutes in duration. Some people complete short-term therapy in four to six sessions, with resolution for a specific situation or goals. Others have more complex situations that require longer-term therapy to obtain the best results. As we progress in treatment, we may choose to move to every-other-week or even monthly appointments. For more support or during periods of crisis, we may elect to meet more frequently.
“How will I know I’m done?” is a question I am often asked. We will discuss this during your first appointment as we create your therapy plan and we will continue to discuss this throughout your treatment process. When your goals have been achieved it will be time to terminate therapy. Of course, you always have the option to return for additional services at any time in the future.
